Another Nail in Coal’s Coffin
Dear
Guardian,
We can’t mine more coal and expect to protect our climate.
For our future, it’s time to keep it in the ground.
Support our winning efforts
to protect our future and keep coal in the ground, where it belongs. By
confronting and exposing the dirty truth about coal, we’re moving the climate agenda
and making progress in reducing carbon pollution.
With President Obama’s rebuff of the Keystone XL pipeline,
it’s clear that Americans are sick of fossil fuels. Yet climate denial is
fueling more coal mining, setting back our move to clean energy.
Thankfully, we’re
pushing back. And we’re winning. As a recent feature story in High Country News reported, Guardians—led
by our lanky, yet undaunted, Climate and Energy Program Director, Jeremy
Nichols—is thwarting new mining and building a movement to keep it in the
ground.
But the challenges ahead are mounting.
The coal industry and the politicians they support are digging
in deeper than ever, working to ensure that climate denial kills clean energy.
Just last week, industry filed suit to overturn Guardians’ recent legal
successes, arguing that the climate impacts of coal should be completely
ignored.
Make a donation today
and support our efforts to overcome the coal industry’s greed and keep our
fossil fuels in the ground for good.
With a gift of $5,
$25, $100 or $250, you send Guardians’ audacious attorneys into
courtrooms to stop new coal mining, enable our campaigners to rally the public
behind a keep it in the ground vision, and build the necessary political
pressure to move beyond fossil fuels. A
monthly gift provides consistent financial support so we can continue
to lead this bold and inspiring movement.
Our Climate and Energy Program Director, Jeremy
Nichols, commented the other day that his ultimate goal is to put himself out
of work. Although I love Jeremy, I know that we all would like to see the day
when the oceans aren’t rising, the air is safe to breathe, and we can all enjoy
a day outside with our families rather than battling the Goliaths of coal.
For the wild,
