Join us June 23 in Grand Junction, Colorado
Dear Guardian,
Join us next week in Grand Junction, Colorado and tell the Obama Administration that it’s time to keep our coal in the ground and transition our nation away from fossil fuels!
Let me set the stage for you.
To protect our climate, we have to stop burning coal. That means we have to keep coal in the ground. And that means we have to help coal-dependent communities transition to more sustainable and prosperous economies.
This is our chance to speak out, join us!

I know that this might be a huge commitment, but our time to speak out is now.
You probably saw our alert yesterday about how coal companies are putting the costs of cleaning up their coal mines on the shoulders of Americans. This isn’t the half of it. Across the western U.S., coal executives are laying off workers, and fighting tooth and nail to keep pumping carbon into our atmosphere.
The stakes are high. 40% of our nation’s coal comes from publicly owned reserves managed by the U.S. Department of the Interior, most of which are in the American West. This coal is
linked to 11% of all U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, making the federal coal program a root contributor to global warming.
Now is our chance to change things.
Earlier this year, the Obama Administration announced a moratorium on leasing publicly owned coal. As part of this bold proclamation, a new environmental review of the federal coal program was launched and this hearing is crucial in assuring public interest is a part of this process.
Together, we can turn the tide for our climate and our future. Join us
next Thursday in Grand Junction!
