It’s Our Last Chance
to Turn Up the Pressure
Dear Guardian,
This President is hard to figure out on climate change. On
the one hand, you have the Clean Power Plan and the Paris Climate Agreement.
While neither is enough, they are both important steps taken by President Obama
to get U.S. greenhouse gas emissions down.
But the other hand is a mess. Just last week, Obama’s
Interior Department approved almost 15,000 new fracking wells on public land in
Utah and Wyoming. Any day now, we expect Interior to approve 170 million tons
of coal mining on 20,000 acres of roadless National Forest in Colorado.
All I can figure is that our message to keep it in the
ground hasn’t broken through at the White House yet. With only 100 days of an
Obama presidency left, this is our last chance to break through, and I need
you to join me!
WildEarth Guardians is joining groups across the country to urge
our members and friends to petition the President one last time to end leasing
public lands and waters to dirty energy companies. Please take a second and
join the many thousands amplifying this message.
We are hoping a social media storm will push the President
to end new leasing on public lands. So after you sign the petition, please
share the action on social media with the hashtag, #ActOnClimate.
It’s not too late for Obama to erase his climate blindspot
and stop this horrific giveaway to dirty energy companies. But it will only
happen if enough of us raise our voices together.
C’mon Mr. President, Keep It in the Ground!
For the wild,
Jeremy Nichols
