Dear Guardian,
Today
March 8, 2017, as we do every day, WildEarth Guardians stands in solidarity
with our sisters (and those of all gender identities) across the world who are
participating in the International Women’s Day to honor and celebrate the
irreplaceable ways that women labor in their homes, workplaces, and
communities.
We stand
in solidarity because we recognize that none of the civil liberties—or
environmental protections—we enjoy today would be possible without the women
who came before us. Women have invested immeasurable hours and boundless
courage on the streets, in the fields, in the kitchens, and in the factories,
fighting for the rights of all—particularly the voiceless and disenfranchised.
While we are always striving to make our staff representative of our nation, we are proud to be an organization that is majority female (65%) and has a senior leadership team that is 50% female. We support and practice equal
pay across genders and are grateful for our male co-workers and their
commitment to gender equality both in our shared workplace and their respective
communities.
Our
fight to ensure that nature has a right to exist and thrive is part of a larger
movement to ensure that everyone has the right to live, labor, and love with
dignity and equity. We act on this belief with compassion and courage. We
defend wildness, empower life, end injustice, and stand for healthy,
sustainable ecosystems and human communities.
We
mobilize, inform and inspire others, and we work to heal wounded landscapes.
This work is done in solidarity with those who work to disrupt the world of
class, race, and gender privilege and to heal the emotional and physical wounds
caused by injustice.
We are a
force for nature and justice. Thank you for joining us in our shared fight.
In solidarity,
Madeleine
