Dear Guardian,
Our streams have been subjected to decades of destruction at the hands of the timber, oil and gas, and livestock industries. Even when polluters pull up stakes, the wild inhabitants of our public lands suffer because of the human-made obstacles they leave behind. These obstacles prevent salmon from reaching their spawning grounds and confine salamanders, frogs, crayfish, and aquatic shrews to fragmented segments of rivers.
Our solution: The Legacy Roads and Trails Program, which provides the funds to erase roads that are no longer needed on our public lands; maintain those that are needed; reconnect habitat; and restore fish passage—as well as provide money to improve trails for human recreationists.

The Legacy Roads and Trails Program is at risk of losing funding for 2018. But we won’t let that happen. We’re sending a letter to Senators Murkowski and Udall to secure funding. Join us: tell the Senate that it’s time to turn away from subsidizing industrial extraction on our public lands and turn toward investing in repairing the damage done.

Because without intervention, the water on our public lands—which provides a home to nearly 70 percent of the United States’ threatened and endangered fish species—isn’t much of a home at all.
Sign our letter today and tell the Senate that restoring rivers is important to you!
For the wild,
