A Coal-tastrophe

Massive Strip Mining Found Illegal, Again Under Review

We Won Once, We Need Your Help to Win Again

Send a letter >

Dear Guardian,

Last year we won a court victory overturning nearly 2 billion tons of coal mining in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming, the nation’s largest coal producing region.

Now, we need your help to ensure this ruling is enforced and that our coal is kept in the ground.

Speak out today and tell the Trump Administration that we won’t stand for more giveaways to the coal industry.

In a landmark ruling, last September a federal appeals court shot down the U.S. Bureau of Land Management’s approval of four massive coal leases.

The court held the agency illegally ignored the climate consequences of more coal leasing.

Now, the Bureau of Land Management is trying to paper over its legal violations and justify more coal mining and more climate destruction. Worse, they’re cutting corners.

Send the Bureau of Land Management a letter today and join the groundswell of opposition.

Called the “Wright Area leases,” these tracts of publicly owned coal were set to expand the two largest mines in the United States, which are also owned by the two largest coal companies, Arch and Peabody.

The coal from these leases threatens to unleash more than 3.3 billion metric tons of carbon. That’s equal to the amount of climate pollution released by 800 coal-fired power plants a year.

We won once and with your help, we can win again.

Take action to help overturn the Wright Area leases once and for all. Keep our climate safe and our clean energy future on track.
