Please take a moment to tell the Tonto National Forest to better protect wild places

Help protect the Tonto National Forest

The Tonto National Forest Needs Your Help

Dear Guardian,

The U.S. Forest Service is revising the 20-year plan that guides how the government will manage the Tonto National Forest. Now is the time to speak up for wild places on this iconic landscape. This plan will decide how all aspects of the Tonto's 2.8 million acres of forests, deserts, rivers, lakes and recreation areas will be managed for decades to come.

The Tonto National Forest is home to 19 threatened and endangered species, and 50 species of conservation concern. Of course, the Forest Service under the Trump administration favors grazing, mining, logging and motorized wreckreation to the detriment of numerous fish and wildlife species. Inventoried Roadless Areas and even the few places recommended for wilderness protection will be vulnerable to off-road vehicles.

Tell the Forest Service to grant the Tonto the strongest protections possible. Please follow this link and comment on the Draft Revised Forest Plan today!

Tell the Forest Service to:

  • Designate all Inventoried Roadless Areas as non-motorized;
  • Manage Recommended Wilderness as true wilderness in order to preserve their chances for future designation;
  • Include an objective that removes all unnecessary roads over the life of the forest plan; and
  • Establish standards that truly protects fish and wildlife, and restores and connect their habitat.

Thank you for supporting us on this issue.

For the Wild,

Judi Brawer, Wild Places Program Director
