The Report Card is based on the most accurate and current scientific data. Scientific documents along with information provided directly from the federal and state governments formed the basis for determining grades. The Report Card focuses on the United States, which has 4 prairie dog species: black-tailed prairie dogs, Gunnison’s prairie dogs, Utah prairie dogs, and white-tailed prairie dogs. Mexico, which has black-tailed and Mexican prairie dogs, and Canada, which has a small population of black-tailed prairie dogs, are also included.
