WildEarth Guardians Report: 50 To 75 Percent Of National Forest Grazing Allotments Violate Environmental Law

The U.S. Forest Service failed to comply with routine environmental standards to monitor and limit environmental damage due to livestock grazing on 50 percent to 75 percent of all allotments in New Mexico and Arizona between 1999 and 2003, according to a report released today by WildEarth Guardians. The report found the Forest Service simply failed to monitor between 32 percent and 56 percent of allotments each year. Of those allotments monitored, utilization violations occur in significant numbers.
