Featured Guardian: Martha's Commitment to WildEarth Guardians

Martha feels that her actions are aligned with her beliefs and that she is doing her part to combat the anti-environmental policies of the Bush administration

Martha Somerville owns the specialty shop, Papers, in Albuquerque.

She moved to New Mexico sight unseen over 33 years ago and didn't exactly fall in love at first sight. After about a year, she had an epiphany while standing on the banks of the Chama River. She realized the foundation of her spirituality is the awareness of the amazing beauty given to us in the natural landscapes of the Southwest.

She joined WildEarth Guardians in 1999 because of our focus on the Southwest and has been a monthly donor since 2004. By sustaining her support via an automatic monthly donation, Martha feels that her actions are aligned with her beliefs and that she is doing her part to combat the anti-environmental policies of the Bush administration.

Martha says she became involved in WildEarth Guardians because of our integrity and passion and because of our very strong stance, our commitment, and our effective activism.

"Sometimes, when money has been tight, I have been tempted to end my contributions, at least temporarily. I remember noting on those occasions that the fact that I didn't showed me how important it is to me. Life just feels better when you stretch yourself to be a part of something that you know is right," she says.
