Comments to Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands Land Management Plan Proposed Monitoring Questions and Performance Measure

WildEarth Guardians submitted brief comments following the more extensive comments of April 3, 2006 on the Draft Management Plan for the Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands

These general comments are followed by examples of problems with the draft management plan. Problems include, but are not limited to, failure to monitor causes of trends; failure to address desired conditions and objectives; failure to utilize either (1) reference areas (to compare with trends and conditions in areas impacted by livestock grazing, ORV use, oil and gas developments), or (2) baselines (by which to understand trends); failure to monitor sufficient parameters of even those elements being monitored; failure to monitor numerous elements of high public interest; and failure to provide the public with estimates of monitoring frequency, costs, or triggers for adaptations of management.
